JNVFD offers 911 Property Signs
A non-profit all volunteer fire department serving 86 square miles of South Central Taylor County. A 911 emergency first responder organization. Established in the early 1990's first named Tuscola Fire Department with only a few of the community volunteers that used a phone tree party line to get notified of emergency calls.
Whether you want to be on the front lines delivering emergency medical care and fire protection, or providing the administrative support required to operate a volunteer department, there is a position for you!
The National Volunteer Fire Council’s (NVFC) National Junior Firefighter Program supports fire and emergency service departments by fostering relationships and engaging youth in learning about, and ultimately becoming, members of the emergency services. The program serves as an umbrella for junior firefighter programs nationwide to promote youth participation within the fire and emergency services community. It is crucial to attract people into the emergency services while they are young so that they form a lifelong connection, whether as a first responder or as a community supporter.

Who ever heard of a person who is willing to drop whatever they are doing to hop on a firetruck and rush to the scene of the alarm risking their life and exhausting themselves physically, not for money, but because they believe in serving their community.
Membership allows individuals to pursue a more significant role in the fire service, including a career.

Once you have completed the application, we will review it and conduct background checks for criminal and driving history, your social media, and any references you may have.
JNVFD will schedule an interview that typically lasts 30-45 minutes.
The Membership Board will approve/disapprove the candidate's membership application, relay results by phone and email, and be advised of the next steps.
* Candidates can schedule a ride-along (s) during the recruitment phase.
Upon acceptance, the new member will move into the "Observer" phase. Here, they can ride on calls as an observer while they have 30 days to complete some required online training.
In the recruit phase, the new member goes through orientation so that they can be safe and helpful on calls. They receive their "Recruit Task Book" also called a "Red Book" which helps them work through specific tasks that enable them to become a valuable member when responding to calls. The tasks are broken into four sections, each requiring more capability: Station Life, EMS, Fire, and Rescue.
