The United States Fire Administration estimates that 70% of the firefighters and 87% of fire departments in the US are volunteer. In Texas, there are approximately 40,000 volunteer firefighters and 1,450 VFDs, according to the Texas Forest Service. Volunteer fire departments provide vital services to their communities while keeping the cost to the taxpayers down. The down side is that many departments are under-funded and have a hard time making ends meet. As you can imagine, firefighting equipment is very expensive to purchase and maintain and the cost of insurance, fuel, training, and repairs just increases that burden. Like many other departments around the nation, JNVFD relies on your generosity to bridge the funding gaps and provide your firefighters with the equipment they need to do their jobs safely.

We have had the fortune of purchasing 2 new fire trucks with equipment cost sharing grants from both FEMA and the Texas Forest Service in the last 3 years. We would not have been able to come up with the matching funds for these grants if it weren’t for the generosity of the great people in our response area. Your support with these projects has provided JNVFD with better equipment to serve you and your family.

Every year, JNVFD begins a fundraising campaign with our annual newsletter outlining the goals the department has for the year. We also have various fundraisers through out the year to offset operating expenses. You can check back here at jimnedfire.com for updates on these events. JNVFD is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization so your donations are always tax deductible. If you would like to make a donation, please send it to:

Your donations will go towards these 2010 Projects:

  • Complete the refurbishment of Brush 2 with a new polyethylene tank, plumbing, brush guards and toolboxes.

  • Prepare for an ISO field survey.

  • Upgrade our handheld radios, base station, and repeater to comply with FCC regulations by January 1, 2013

  • Continue preparation to build a new fire station.
